In 1776 the thirteen British Colonies decided that they could no longer continue as before. Government should only rule with the consent of the governed. And since this was not the case in America they decided to do something about it.

The result was the Declaration of Independence and a new nation, the United States of America, was born.

It took eight years of war before we won our independence and were recognized as a sovereign nation by the rest of the world.
